Peaches

It’s peach season!

Well, I better say it’s the bitter end of peach season and I squeaked into the local orchard, while picking up my kids from school, and bought their last 4 boxes of peaches!

Then they sat in the cold storage for a bunch of days because I was too busy to deal with them.

But then hubby came home and helped me make 2 boxes of them into Peach Pie Filling.  We got 9 quarts of canned Peach Pie Filling, and 6 3/4 quarts that we put into freezer bags.  Yumm!!!  I know it’s going to be delicious!  I keep imagining just eating it on vanilla ice cream!

The peaches were kinda small because I got the last ones, but they were still very sweet and delicious!

I still have 2 boxes of peaches left, so a couple days ago I made a batch of Peach Jam.  I think it turned out pretty nice and the recipe was very simple!  Just Peaches, Sugar, Orange Juice, and Lemon Juice.  It didn’t even call for Pectin, which is why I wanted to try the recipe!

I got 7 tiny jars and 3 larger jars from the single batch.  I’m definitely going to make more of this and double the recipe!  Maybe I’ll have some time to do it tonight!

Sophie & Braden Meet the Children

I have so much to talk about and I feel so behind with my blogging!  This post happened over a week ago, but I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to talk about it.

I’ve been taking Braden and Sophie with me everywhere, and especially to places that have children.  On this evening, we all went to Pathfinders, a youth activity with our church that my children are involved in.  Wow, was it ever eye-opening to realize that children are loud, quick with movements, and they can be quite overwhelming to a puppy!  My kids are generally calm at home I guess because though these pups have been around them quite a bit, it wasn’t the same as at the church.

Two of the younger girls were enamored with Braden and Sophie, and they both passed hands throughout the entire evening!  I also let the kids take them for a walk, which now is no problem for either of them, but on that particular night, they weren’t so sure about walking with a strange child.

Even though Sophie is a little more than a lapful, or an armful, they toted her around like she was their favorite dollie!  Sophie just tolerated it.  As it was her first experience with this, I’m not sure she “relished” it, but she was very good mannered and just let them do whatever they wanted to do.  I”m sure she would wear a Halloween Costume if someone put it on her because she just is sweet like that.

Braden did really well too, and I think he actually gave a few kisses while in the arms of the girls!  By the end of the night, both pups had tails wagging, and they were willingly coming up to fingers stretched out for sniffing!

It is our goal to take the Accelerated Puppies that have had their 2nd shot, with us to expose them to the ride in the car, children, and different sights and sounds.  ChocoBoy and Molly were not with us on this night, but they have been integrated and are coming with us now when we go to town.  I’ll be sure to post some pictures of them and their adventures soon!

Sophie – A Female Blenheim Cavachon (Accelerated) – Adopted Puppy

SOPHIE HAS BEEN SELECTED BY MARILYN.  SHE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.

This is Sophie, a 7 month old Cavachon female.  We have been working with Sophie for several weeks and she is ready for her new home.  She can walk on the leash, sleep in her crate over night, and she will be spayed before going to her new home.

Her personality is playful and somewhat laid back.  She does not bark, but will let you know when she needs out of her crate to potty (with a little yelp).  She loves chewing on Bully Sticks and playing tug-of-war with a rope toy with the other puppies.

She can now ride in the car without getting sick, and she’s just a really nice, mellow puppy.  She will probably mature to 18-20 lbs as a full adult.

Enjoy these photos of Sophie.  She went to the groomer today for a bath and brush.  She looks so sweet and angelic right now, and those big brown eyes just add to her melty sweet look!

Sophie’s price is $1500 plus delivery.

Sadie & Pookie Bear Go To The Groomers

Last November, Lilly & Pujo had a litter of Cavachon puppies.  “Sadie” was one of those puppies.  We have had her here, all this time, waiting for her to get a forever home.  I am happy to announce that she will be going home to Oregon on Sept. 11th!

In preparation for her new home, Sadie needed a haircut!  The Cavachon coat is one that DOES need grooming, and Sadie had not been groomed at all, except for a bath here and there.  As a result, her coat was thick, wooly, and had some mats, so it was time for Sadie to see the groomers.

Here are a few “before” pictures of Sadie!

20110906-055222.jpg

On this day, she had a “top-knot”, but not the cute kind with a bow on her head!  This was just a spontaneous “clump”!

This is Sadie & Pookie Bear (the little guy) with Princess.  They had so much fun playing together!

20110906-055255.jpg

Sadie, looking like a dog in a winter coat!

And this is Sadie after her haircut!  She looked so different, that when I walked into the groomers to pick her up, I saw Pookie and 2 small black dogs, and didn’t even recognize her!  One of those “small” dogs was Sadie!!

20110906-055512.jpg

I just knew she would be grey underneath!

20110906-055525.jpg

She’s so cute in her bows!

20110906-055534.jpg

She still has the white patch on her chest, and a bit on her chin!

20110906-055549.jpg

Her coat is so velvety.  It was like a carpet when vacuumed one direction, it’s one color, and then when going the other direction, the color changes.

20110906-055600.jpg

Sadie looks so elegant here with her paws crossed!

I’m sure that as her hair grows out again, it will get darker.  Somehow coats do that.  You’ll see with Pookie Bear’s coat below, how when it’s really short, it looks really light, but as it grows in, it gets darker again.

20110906-055609.jpg

Another view of the variations in color!

20110906-055629.jpg

She is a happy girl and ready to meet her new parents!

Now, here is a picture of Pookie Bear, “before”.  We had groomed him ourselves not too long ago, so he looked pretty good already when he went to the groomers.  Notice how his coat is a nice honey brown color here.

20110906-055327.jpg

He is such a cute boy, and small, and looking for a forever home!

Here he is after going to the groomers!

20110906-055644.jpg

He looks almost cream-colored.  But I know from experience, that as his coat grows, that honey color will come back.  Pookie has been groomed several times professionally, and the color always comes back on his coat!

20110906-055658.jpg

He’s so cute in his bandana!

20110906-055709.jpg

He is a sweet boy, crate trained, rides in the car without getting sick, and loves going for walks!

20110906-055739.jpg

His face actually has a bit of grey/black on it.  You can really see it in the “before” photo of him!

He loved being at the park getting his picture taken!

Introducing Molly & Braden – Accelerated Puppies in Training

I would like everyone to officially meet Annie’s Tri puppies, who now have names!  The puppy on the left is “Molly”, and the puppy on the right is “Braden”.  We’ve been loving these puppies and playing with them, but we’ve just been calling them, “here puppy, puppy”, so it’s alway so nice when we find out what their name is going to be, and we can begin using the names with the puppies.

The other night, Molly & Braden watched a movie with us on the couch.  Well, let’s say, we all tried to watch a movie, while Molly & Braden wiggled, and wiggled, and wiggled, and wiggled, and wiggled.  I thought of the perfect solution to all the wiggling, and gave them a Bully Stick, which worked, and didn’t work at the same time.

It worked because they both stopped wiggling and began chewing ferociously on the thing, but in the process of doing this, instead of wiggles, we had gnaw, squeak, gnaw, squeak, gurgle, squeak, gnaw…to listen to while we watched.  The noise was much more tolerable than the movement, so we settled for it and finished our movie.

During the last 5 minutes, we separated the puppies, and Braden fell asleep on my chest, while Molly finally curled up between me and Kaelyn.  We watched some of the special features, even though it was late, simply to let ourselves enjoy the cozy puppies, if but for a moment!!

Molly on the left, Braden on the right.  I know, it’s blurry.  They wouldn’t stop moving!!

Braden, a gorgeous Tri Color Cavachon puppy.  This color is rare, and doesn’t come around too often!

A view of their coats.

Close up of Molly.  This was actually a photo of the two of them, but Braden was so blurry, I decided to just crop Molly out, blow it up a bit, and use it anyway!  Her tan points aren’t as prominent as her brother, but she is gorgeous just the same!

Looking all smug like they were perfect angels the entire evening.  Ummm, NOT!!

Chelsie’s Shichon Girlies

I took some pictures of Chelsie’s Shichon girls yesterday.  They were 5 weeks old on Saturday and will be ready to go home in 3 weeks (Sept. 25th).  They are SO cute right now!  They growl at each other, roll around, pounce, and watch mama intently to see how she interacts with us.  They’ll be getting their first worming this week, and shots when they’re 7 weeks old.

The brown/white girl is sold to Louise, but the black/white girl is still available.  I do have another deposit for a Shichon female, so I’ll wait to see if that family would like this puppy, or they might select the female from Sadie’s litter (pictures coming soon).

These photos are just quick snaps, but show how incredibly cute these babies are!  Enjoy!

They are basically the same size, but black/white girl might be a tiny bit smaller.  Louise, if you have a name for your puppy, please let me know, and I’ll start using it with her!

My Day

1. Wake up at 4am and realize I still have 1 ½ glorious hours to sleep.

2. Go back to sleep.

3. Alarm wakes me at 5:30 from a terrible nightmare…I was on Project Runway and the assignment was to make a pencil skirt out of two ugly 70’s cocktail dresses. Was never so glad to be woken by my alarm!

4. Skip doing the mamas and babies to take an overdue shower!

5. Wake kids up at 6am to get ready for school.

6. Make breakfast and lunches.

7. Get dressed.

8. Braid Kaelyn’s hair.

9. Drive kids to school, meeting Mr. K to check out timing for having him take the kids the rest of the way to school.

10. Follow Mr. K to see where he works and where he’ll drop kids off.

11. Watch kids walk the last ½ mile to school.

12. Drive to school, passing kids as they are walking. Sad looks coming my way!

13. Greet kids at school and tell them this is the first and last time they’ll have to walk because Mrs. LB offered to pick them up for the last leg to school.

14. Sing with kids during morning worship at school.

15. Drive 45 minutes back home.

16. Discover uneaten PB & Honey sandwich from yesterday’s lunch and eat it for breakfast. It was kinda dry, but good.

17. Move 11 puppies out to the lawn so they could play and I could clean their pens.

18. Deep clean 4 puppy/mama nursing pens.

19. In between cleaning the pens, get 2 loads of laundry through wash.

20. Also in between cleaning pens, answer 3 emails about puppies, and inquire about purchasing UGODOG in bulk.

21 Also in between cleaning pens, unload Costco toilet paper into top shelf of cold storage.

22. Take all 11 puppies back to nursery before leaving to pick up kids from school.

23. Grab water bottle, then drive 45 minutes back to school to pick up kids..

24. Talk with Mrs. LB about carpooling on Fridays.

25. Get kids into car and head to the bank.

26. Deposit dog checks from puppies that were sold almost 2 weeks ago.

27. Snack on string cheese and discover that the yogurt purchased from Costco had never been unloaded out of car yet.

28. Drive home past Mrs. LB’s house to see how many miles and how long it takes from her house to mine, in preparation for tomorrow’s carpooling.

29. Arrive home and give children instructions about backpacks, changing clothes, and getting ready to do chores.

30. Move one more load of laundry through wash (nothing has been folded yet).

31. Bury Calvin in fruit orchard.

32. Hook trailer to Explorer for dump run tomorrow.

33. Load dog poop trash, and other trash into trailer to take to dump.

34. Cover trailer with tarp and fish net thingy because it looks like rain.

35. Haul with red wagon, and Kaelyn’s help, 10 bags of dog food from Costco to upper kennel.

36. Feed and water dogs in upper kennel.

37. Oversee Kendrick cleaning trash out of Explorer.

38. Head into garden to see if any tomatoes are red and to dig some potatoes for supper.

39. Pull a head of garlic out of the ground to dry for later use.

40. Admire crop of bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, and misc. peppers (best one ever) and wish I had time to take impressive photos to put on my blog like The Pioneer Woman.

41. Pick bell peppers and have Kendrick take 2 over to the neighbors house.

42. Balance armload of veggies from garden AND open front door of house without spilling any (well, ok, one garlic fell).

43. Wash potatoes for supper.

44. Wash bell peppers for supper.

45. Discover kids ate a yogurt, so aren’t hungry for supper.

46. Abandon supper idea and come into office to write my list.

Yes, that was my day (4am-7pm).
